Black and White — Series

The Series Black and White deals with Violence and the idea that one does not need to have marks of ugly scars in the body or bruises in the skin in order to perceive its presence.

The title: Black and White, refers to the colors used in the paintings and its use in order to avoid references to ethnicity: Violence is not an issue of color. It is a universal problem. The large scale of the art-work expresses the magnitude of the social problem.

Texture is an important element in my work. As I covered the burlap with layered fragments of paper it resembled the process of healing as an attempt to mend and patch what was been torn. It appeals to the need for community and solidarity.
