With this series-Installation “Crutches” I claim for attention to the victims of the antipersonnel mines, which are designed for use against humans, and left behind after armed conflicts, and as a consequence they kill and injured many people long after conflicts are over.
My home country Colombia claims thousands of victims every year since 1990. My purpose is to make they visible and to raise awareness and solidarity with these victims.
The image of the crutches creates a metaphor for the external device to compensate an impaired strength. While this device never correct the original impairment, it provides an artificial compensation and help to overcome the limitation. This devise can create dependence and this device should be understood as a temporary support. The problem needs to be approach an intervention to make a definitive correction: Peace.
